Major Campus Addition & Integrated Sanctuary Architecture

This project introduced a major new architectural addition to the existing JCC campus for Congregation Rodef Shalom, establishing a dedicated congregational presence within a previously undeveloped portion of the site. The design integrates synagogue, community, and shared-use spaces into a cohesive architectural composition that connects seamlessly with existing campus facilities.

The exterior architecture is defined by clean masonry volumes, articulated rooflines, and carefully scaled glazing that ties the new construction to the existing JCC while clearly expressing its religious and civic function. Entry sequences and circulation paths were choreographed to guide congregants and visitors intuitively between the synagogue and community center, reinforcing a unified campus identity.

Interior spaces are organized around clarity, light, and flexibility. The sanctuary is defined by strong axial geometry, warm material palettes, and controlled daylight that reinforces focus and orientation. Architectural elements—including wood detailing, stone surfaces, and integrated lighting—establish a sense of permanence while supporting acoustics and visibility for worship and musical performance.

The social hall is the project’s central innovation. Conceived as a fully dual-use space, it is designed to open to both the synagogue and the JCC, allowing it to function as a shared civic room for services, lifecycle events, performances, and large community gatherings. Operable partitions, ceiling articulation, and infrastructure integration allow the space to transform without compromising architectural integrity or interior character.

Throughout the project, interior design reinforces architectural intent through consistent materials, durable finishes, and carefully proportioned spaces. The result is a campus expansion that supports worship, community life, and shared use through integrated architecture and forward-thinking planning.
