Sanctuary, Lobby & Social Hall Renovation

This project involved a comprehensive architectural renovation of Temple Sinai’s core interior spaces, including the sanctuary, lobby, social hall, and associated gathering areas. The scope focused on transforming the interior environment through spatial reconfiguration, architectural detailing, and the introduction of distinctive design elements that redefine the congregational experience.

The sanctuary renovation centered on creating an in-the-round worship space, supported by a sculpted ceiling design that establishes both visual focus and acoustic performance. Layered ceiling forms, integrated lighting, and carefully articulated geometry shape the room’s volume, drawing attention to the bimah while enhancing intimacy and inclusion. Material transitions and surface textures reinforce depth and warmth without visual clutter.

Lighting was designed as an architectural element rather than an applied feature. Concealed sources, indirect illumination, and focused highlights work together to support prayer, music, and ceremonial moments, allowing the sanctuary to shift in character throughout the day and across different service types.

The lobby was reimagined as a volumetric gathering space defined by height, light, and movement. Sculptural ceiling elements and feature lighting establish a strong spatial identity while improving orientation and circulation between worship, social, and educational areas. The space functions as a communal hub rather than a transitional corridor.

The social hall renovation introduced new ceiling treatments, acoustic strategies, and architectural detailing that support flexibility for lifecycle events and large gatherings. Proportion, lighting, and material continuity align the social hall with the sanctuary and lobby, creating a cohesive interior language across the building.
Together, these renovations transform Temple Sinai’s interior architecture into a unified, expressive environment—one defined by crafted volumes, sculpted surfaces, and spaces designed to support worship and community with clarity and distinction.
